Climbing and Rock Sports

Up, up and away. Climbing and bouldering are fantastic full body workouts, and they're not just for adrenaline addicts.

The massive, indoor climbing arena at EICA: Ratho offer hundreds of different routes, suitable for all levels from beginner to elite, on many different features including slabs, grooves, arêtes, vertical walls and overhangs of all angles including horizontal roofs.

At all levels, you can build strength, improve flexibility, and exercise just about every muscle in your body. Climbing helps mental fitness too – it’s brilliant for de-stressing, as well as building confidence and focus.

Climb walls that range in height from a friendly 6 metres up to 28 metres high on a variety of routes from very achievable Grade 3 to expert level Grade 7 and 8. The impressive arena boulders and the bouldering room have boulder challenges ranging from a very easy V0 to a formidable V15.

If you're already an experienced and competent climber and pass a quick safety assessment, you can come in and climb without needing to book a session. Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult and experienced and competent climbers aged 14 to 17 years may be able to climb unsupervised on successful completion of a pre booked 60 minute assessment course.

Instructors and courses are here to get you started or take you to the next level and all equipment is available for hire. What are you waiting for?

Climb

From top roping (where the ropes are in place) to lead climbing there are plenty routes and options. If you’re coming to climb then we need to know you’re a competent climber so you can enjoy the sport in our fantastic arena.

Family Climb

Want to get started as a family? Our 90 minute session is an excellent opportunity for the whole family to learn basic rope work and safety skills, so that you can all enjoy our mighty climbing walls and boulders.

Mobile Climbing Tower

An excellent way to get started for those aged over four years. With the supervision of one of our instructors and an auto belay system, kids can swing down in the safety of a harness.

Bouldering is a popular and dynamic sport that teaches you rock climbing movement and skills without having to think about knots and ropes.

There's a wide range of bouldering levels and challenges at EICA in the arena and the dedicated bouldering room nearby. To give bouldering a try you will either need to be an experienced climber or be under the supervision of one of our instructors. Although the boulders are not as high as the roped climbs in the arena, safety skills and awareness of other boulderers are essential to enjoy the activity.

This style of climbing develops balance, agility and flexibility as well as power, strength and dynamic movements but don’t let that put you off - the problems (or obstacles) come in a range of levels so you can build up at your own pace.

We run a large range of personal climbing and skills development sessions covering all abilities, whether you're just learning the ropes or you're getting back into it after a while away.

As well as climbing for leisure we provide training and assessments for professional qualifications throughout the year.  Click here for more information.

We also run IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) Courses which will provide you with a professional internationally recognised qualification in rope access work.  Courses run throughout the year.  Click here for more information.
