Gym Nippers

Our Gym Nippers classes help to develop motor skills, balance and agility.  Progress within these classes will be monitored against the Edinburgh Leisure class competencies and you can keep a track by signing up to our home portal.  For all our Gym Nippers classes, we ask that adults stay in the building, and for our 18 months – 3 years classes you even get to come in and participate!

Adult and Toddler classes are for children aged 18 months to 3 years.  Within our Adult & Toddler classes our focus is to improve co-ordination and motor skills through song, dance and movement.

During this class the adult stays with the child and can join in with all the fun.

Three to five-year olds can attend Pre-School Gym Nippers sessions that will develop self-confidence and social skills. Landing and shaping, loco-motor and dance, rotation and rebound are covered in these sessions. Young gymnasts will also learn about levels and direction, balances and shapes, swings and turns, and twists. During this class the adult will leave the class and allow the child to develop independently.

This class is a combination of our Gym Nippers classes to allow parents with both ages of children to attend.  The children who are three and above will follow the same structure as our 3 – 5 years classes while the younger children (18 months – 3 years) will be accompanied by an adult and will be supervised around the equipment. Landing and shaping, loco-motor and dance, rotation and rebound are covered in these sessions. Young gymnasts will also learn about levels and direction, balances and shapes, swings, turns and twists.

This pre-school class combines the music and movement of Gym Nippers with the excitement of trampolining in a safe and fun environment. Children will use a range of gymnastics and trampoline equipment to learn skills such as balance, coordination and strength.

Are there any opportunities for competition?

Every year we run an annual gymnastics display, and an annual gymnastics competition, plus in-house gymnastics competitions at every venue for every child. Throughout the year every child is assessed against specific skills to enable them to progress to the next level.

Can adults take part in gymnastics?

Adults and teenagers can start or get back into gymnastics at any time.

What clothing is needed?

Children should wear appropriate comfortable clothing that they can move around and be active in, for example T-shirts and shorts or leggings (note dresses or skirts are not ideal). Please tie long hair back and remove any jewellery, and children should take a water bottle into their class with them. They will take part in the gymnastics lessons in bare feet.

Can I be involved in my Childs learning?

Parents of children in our Baby Nippers and Gym Nipper classes (up to the age of 3) are an important part of the class where both the children and adults have great fun learning and socialising together. Parents are encouraged to really get involved as the more the parent does then the more the child will take part. Parents are also advised to wear comfortable clothing and follow the guidelines for children.
