EICA Ratho, the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, is Europe’s largest indoor climbing centre and a premier destination for the climbing community.
Catering to all skill levels it features towering lead walls, extensive top-rope climbing, and versatile bouldering areas for both beginners and experts.
The centre also offers speed climbing, a family-friendly Clip ‘n Climb zone, and a variety of courses and coaching for all ability levels.

Climbing Taster Sessions
New to climbing or bouldering? Our Taster Sessions are the perfect way to get started, with expert guidance and all the equipment you need included.
New to Climbing
Those new to climbing and looking to register for unsupervised sessions must be aged 18+ and complete our Climbing Start Up course
This 2 hour session teaches the skills needed to climb and belay unsupervised on top rope walls or boulders at EICA Ratho.
Bouldering
Anyone looking to boulder unsupervised is required to complete our Bouldering Registration Form.
For those looking for help in getting started then there is a one hour Bouldering Start up Course available but this is not mandatory in order to boulder at EICA.
The Start up course is available for up to 6 people aged 18 years or over and no experience is necessary

If you have climbed before but are a new visitor to EICA Ratho you must register as a climber by completing the below form.
All new climbers will be asked to complete a competency test upon arrival.
Competent and registered climbers can bring up to two guests to climb under their supervision. A customer can sign guests in at reception where a guest form must be completed upon arrival.
Climb Coaching
New to climbing or want to take on a new challenge? We’ve got climbing lessons for all ages and skill levels.
Get the whole family clipped in, meet new people, and learn to climb with our expert instructors.

NEW Bouldering Social Nights
Climb, connect and improve together with new Social Bouldering Nights, every Monday at 7pm.
These relaxed, instructor-supported sessions are a great way to meet fellow climbers, build confidence and learn new skills in a friendly, social environment.

- Available to customers paying for casual entry
- Suitable for anyone who has completed a Start Up or Bouldering Induction Course
Spaces are limited. To book your place, simply speak to a member of staff at reception.
Abseil Taster
60 minute session ideal for those new to abseiling. Supervised by one of our friendly instructors. Available to both adults and children 8+ years.

Please note Edinburgh Leisure operates in a cashless environment. We accept card and contactless payments only; no cash. Prices correct as of 1st April 2026.
Education and Group Bookings
We offer a range of Group Climb and Multi-Activity options. These operate at a 1:6 ratio with participants age 8+.
