Our People

Our people underpin everything we do and aspire to achieve. We have a team of over 800 from swim teachers to greenkeepers and from leisure attendants to reception and administration - all here to make your experience of Edinburgh Leisure a great one.

We recognise our people as our biggest asset. Well-trained, motivated, confident and capable staff, coaches and volunteers are core to delivering Edinburgh Leisure’s vision. 

Leisure Attendants 

Our professional leisure staff work in a number of areas to assist, support and supervise customers using our venue facilities.

The team are very approachable and can assist or direct any questions you have relating to activities, equipment, courses, classes, membership or more.


Our welcoming, qualified coaches work in activities such as gymnastics, athletics, tennis, basketball, swimming, football and more.

Many have the highest of qualifications and are here to encourage people across the social spectrum from special needs, disabilities to elite performance. 


Our lifeguards are NPLQ qualified and regularly recertified and trained to retain their standard and advanced qualifications. 

A helpful, friendly team whose main purpose when on duty is to focus intensely on our pool areas with customer safety paramount. 

Fitness Class Instructors 

We operate over 750 fitness classes a week delivered by a large team of highly trained and motivated fitness class instructors. 

Many have a Les Mills ‘Licence’ which ensures that you enjoy a great class experience whatever your level of ability with options adapted to suit. 

Gym Instructors

Our experienced team will help inspire, guide and support you to get the most out of your workout - and you ought to hear their playlists.

Trained to a minimum Level 2 qualification, many have additional training to assist with specialisms such as rehabilitation.

Our Board

Our Board of Directors are elected or appointed members who jointly oversee the activities of Edinburgh Leisure. 

They provide the strategic direction to help ensure we maintain the highest level of standards and performance whilst meeting the needs of our customers and stakeholders.

Our Active Communities team plan and run funded programmes to help make a positive difference to communities by creating opportunities for everyone to get active, stay active and achieve more.

This is delivered by three designated teams, specialising in:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Community Participation
  • Sports Development

In a service business such as ours, an engaged team is critical to our success. Our employees know what is expected of them in their role, they are given the support and resources to effectively do their job, they understand the purpose of our organisation and our vision for the future and how they fit in and contribute to this.

Our purpose, vision and values align our organisation and is the model for better performance - this is what holds us together and everything we do collectively as an organisation and individually must be united to deliver on them successfully.
