We are standardising the number of days in advance you can book certain activities. From 1st December members will be able to book 8 days in advance and non-members 7 days in advance for lane and relaxed swim sessions, gym sessions and classes and fitness classes. This system change is due to happen at 10am on 1st December. You can see our full Bookings Terms & Conditions in the Ask Us area of our website.

At EICA, in partnership with Mountain Training, we run climbing training courses and assessments for a range of qualifications that are nationally recognised, ideal if you are looking to become a climbing instructor either professionally or as a volunteer.

Each Mountain Training Climbing Award scheme consists of a training course followed by an assessment course which is completed after a consolidation period. 

To attend any training course you must first register with Mountain Training for the award scheme that you would like to complete. Links to register for each award are included with the descriptions below.

The Climbing Wall Instructor qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. It is ideal for people who work at climbing walls or at venues with permanent or mobile climbing towers. 

Please note the Climbing Wall Instructor qualification does not include the skills and techniques required to teach lead climbing An additional optional Abseil Module is also available below.

This qualification is all about supervising safe climbing and abseiling sessions on single pitch crags and artificial structures. 

Whether you're a parent, a volunteer or an outdoor centre instructor, the Rock Climbing Instructor qualification trains and assesses experienced rock climbers to instruct climbing.

This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to teach lead climbing skills on indoor or outdoor artificial climbing walls and structures with fixed protection.

 It builds on the skills gained through either the Climbing Wall Instructor or Rock Climbing Instructor qualifications, one of which must be held in order to access the scheme.

This new qualification is for experienced Rock Climbing Instructors who wish to develop other climber's skills and abilities, including the teaching of lead climbing.

The Climbing Wall Instructor Abseil module, is an optional module undertaken by those involved in the Climbing Wall Instructor Award scheme. It's aim is to train and assess people responsible for supervising abseiling from climbing walls.

The IRATA Training and Certification Scheme is a globally recognised rope access competence framework. It is a key qualification for staff working in onshore and offshore industry sectors  including Oil and Gas, Renewables, Construction, NDT inspection, Maintenance and many more. Open up a world of new opportunities by booking your space on an IRATA course at EICA, where our experienced and friendly Instructors will 'show you the ropes' and help you get a 'step up the ladder'.

EICA Ratho is a trainer member of IRATA International, the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association. Our certified IRATA Instructors provide training and certification for IRATA technicians at Levels 1, 2 and 3 following the syllabus of the Training and Assessment Certification Scheme (TACS)

  • IRATA Level 1 is the entry level qualification which enables people with no previous experience to work under the supervision of an IRATA Level 3 supervisor.
  • IRATA Level 2 is open to technicians who have completed IRATA Level 1 and subsequently completed a minimum of 1 year and 1000 logged rope access hours in a variety of settings. It is a demanding course which covers rigging, rescues and some relevant legislation.
  • IRATA Level 3 qualifies a level two technician who has completed minimum of a further 1 year and 1000 hours of logged rope access work after qualifying as a Level 2. Level 3 is a comprehensive course which covers all of the Level 1 and 2 syllabus, and also includes advanced hauling, rescues and rigging, risk assessment, method statements, legislation, formal equipment inspection. A Level 3 is qualified to supervise any IRATA work site.

Please note - IRATA courses are physically demanding and take place at height. Candidates who are not physically fit or do not have an aptitude for work at height may be unable to complete the course. You will be asked to sign an medical declaration at the start of the course.

IRATA qualifications are valid for 3 years from the date of the assessment and full retraining is required at the end of this period. In the case of a technician completing no rope access hours for a period of six months, they should complete refresher training (this does not need to be a full training course).
