Kids activities

Our coaching programmes may be put on hold and our soft play centres temporarily closed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep your kids active throughout COVID-19. Jump into our own take on the classic Snakes & Ladders board game, but with a fitness twist! Only got a few minutes? Get the kids involved in the 60-Second Challenge for the chance to win prizes when we reopen, or take a look at our swimming activities for pre-schoolers!

Whether you’re looking for a quick way to burn off some steam or are after something a little more challenging, our indoor challenges can help your kids to stay fit, healthy and active until we reopen.

Part of one of our coaching programmes? Take a look at the virtual classes, games and challenges we have on offer below.

We’ve taken this much-loved board game and given it an Edinburgh Leisure twist! All you need is a dice and a space to move around and complete exercises such as jogging on the spot, high knees, planks and star jumps. To make it more interesting, we’ve added ladder challenges. You can do these with no equipment, but you can also use badminton racquets, footballs, shuttlecocks and tennis balls if you have them.

Don’t have a dice? Use this virtual one from Google.

Finished? Tag us on Facebook (@EdinburghLeisure) and let us know how you get on!

Got a spare minute? You can’t go wrong with one of these 60-second physical activity challenges from Youth Sport Trust. Choose anything from burpees, bean bag throwing, skipping and obstacle courses, with plenty of other fun activities in between. Once you’ve completed the activity, fill in our editable, printable PDF. You can then bring this into one of our venues when we reopen for the chance to win prizes!

We've put together a PDF of exercises which can be done from home which work on skills and muscle groups crucial to gymnastics. Whether you're looking for an easy way to keep the kids active or want to prepare them for the next coaching term, we've got you covered with our in-depth guide. All exercises provide instructions and demonstrations on how to perform correctly.

If you’re looking for gymnastics activities for the little ones, look no further! The team at Gym JAMS have created a virtual class to keep your kids on their toes – all you need is some safe open space for the exercises and a cuddly toy to help with the session.

Jump in with British Gymnastics-qualified preschool gymnastics coaches and tutors with a class focussed on movement, flexibility, balance and, most importantly, fun! Classes also focus on jumping and landing, fine motor skills and coordination, with a cool down at the end to make sure participants stretch and recover properly.

Grown-up supervision is recommended.

Our pools may be temporarily closed, but you can still keep them close to your heart with our printable swimming bingo game! All you need is a hat to mix up the cards in and one designated Bingo Caller to help run the game for the other participants.

On your marks, get set, BINGO!

You can still teach kids important water safety lessons away from the pool, thanks to this excellent pack of activities from the Royal Life Saving Society UK. Each day, they'll be posting challenges and games to keep the little ones on their toes. You can also enter their Rookie competition for a chance to win a free month's membership to the RLSS UK's Lifesaving Academy.

We're also pleased to be bringing you a swimming crossword, so you and the family can stay connected to the pool from home. Choose from well-known swimming terms and try and guess all the words in a fun-filled puzzle.

Young children can lose confidence if they've been out of the pool for a while and become uncomfortable having water on their faces. So we've got some bath time games to help make their return to the water easier.

From kicking and scooping to simple breathing, there's lots of fun you can have in the bath to improve water confidence and basic swimming skills. Try out some of these games next bath time and bring a little piece of Edinburgh Leisure swim coaching into your home.

These activities are the perfect way to keep your kids ready and raring to go when we restart our coaching programmes. We’ve got a total of 14 different sports programmes taking place in venues across the city, where our expert coaches welcome everyone, regardless of age and ability.

Whether you’re interested in learning to swim, climb or something in between, we’ve got you covered here at Edinburgh Leisure. We’ll be here to welcome you to the Biggest Sports Coaching Club in Town after all this is over.

We'll be posting any updates on our social media channels. You can follow us on the below handles:
