About Get Moving
"Get Moving with Counterweight" is a group based healthy lifestyle programme which supports you to make small changes to your diet and lifestyle to help you to manage your weight and become more active.
Get Moving with Counterweight is suitable for adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 25 and a weight less than 160kg ( 25 stone 3 pounds). You can figure this out here.
What can I expect?
Get Moving is delivered over 12 weeks to groups of no more than 15 people and include information on healthy eating and active living to support long-term behaviour change.
Each session our coaches will take you through a series of topics including:
- Weight loss goals and energy requirements
- Healthy eating and active living
- Understanding food labels
- Healthy shopping, cooking and eating out
- Eating habits and emotions
- How to prevent lapsing and relapsing
- Maintaining your weight loss
Each session includes some group based physical activity. This is usually in the gym where one of our qualified instructors will tailor a programme to your individual needs and goals.
We will track your weight at each session to help measure your progress but don’t worry this is not done in front of the group and is not shared with anyone other than you.
You will also be given an Edinburgh Leisure card which will give you subsidised access to our gyms, pools, fitness classes and court bookings to support you to be active out with your Get Moving sessions. This card is valid for 1 year.
What happens after the 12 weeks?
You will receive ongoing support from our team to review progress and to help keep you on track for a healthier lifestyle. These follow up meetings are arranged after three, six and nine months and will either be done in person, over the phone or virtually.
