Your Health Matters: A Different Kind of New Year Reset

Your Health Matters: A Different Kind of New Year Reset

On a dark January evening, it’s easy to make the same promise we’ve made before: “I’ll get healthier.”
And just as easy to feel unsure where to start.

For some people, the problem isn’t motivation, it’s not knowing what “healthier” actually means for them. More steps? Better sleep? Less stress? A bit more strength? When the goal is vague, it’s hard to keep hold of it once life gets busy again.

That’s the idea behind Edinburgh Leisure’s Your Health Matters pilot at Drumbrae Leisure Centre: not a grand transformation, but a calm, practical pause. A chance to take stock.

In a 60 minute consultation, you’re guided through a series of simple checks that help build a fuller picture of what’s going on inside your body. It’s not about judgement or chasing perfect numbers, it’s about understanding your starting point. The assessment looks at body composition (including measures like BMI, body fat percentage, visceral fat and hydration), health markers (blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol), and a few straightforward fitness tests such as flexibility and grip strength.

Afterwards, you receive a personalised results report, the kind that turns “I think I’m doing okay?” into “Now I know.” And because insight is only useful if it leads somewhere, you’ll also get a nineweek Habit Journal. It’s designed to make progress feel visible: small actions, tracked over time, with space to notice what’s working and celebrate the wins that usually get overlooked.

If your New Year intention is to feel better in a way that’s realistic, not performative, this is a gentle place to begin.

Booking: via the Edinburgh Leisure app or online → choose Drumbrae and select “Health Check” to view available sessions.
