Seaside views, a top-spec gym and beautiful Victorian baths – Portobello Swim Centre has been a hallmark of the local community, providing recreation, health and fitness facilities for over 120 years.
Free 6-Month Casual Swimming Pass
Thanks to Summer of Sport funding, children from 5 to 15 can enjoy 6 months of free casual swimming if their parent or guardian receives Universal Credit.
This subsidised coaching offer is available for 6 months from date of issue, helping more children stay active, build confidence and develop new skills throughout the school year. A limited number of passes are available so don’t wait!

Step into a world of tranquillity and timeless Victorian charm at Portobello Swim Centre, home to Edinburgh’s only authentic and publicly accessible Turkish baths.
Nestled along the scenic Portobello Promenade and steeped in history since its construction in 1898, this beautifully preserved Victorian leisure facility offers a rare opportunity to unwind in one of just three remaining Turkish baths in Scotland. Today, they remain a serene escape from the bustle of modern life – perfect for relaxation, rejuvenation, and a touch of historic elegance by the sea.

Facilities
The iconic Swim Baths are also home to Edinburgh’s only Turkish Baths, a Sauna and teaching and family pool. Gym and Fitness Classes are also available to book alongside the fully equipped gym.

The City of Edinburgh Council, in partnership with Edinburgh Leisure, is planning a major refurbishment of Portobello Swim Centre – a much-loved and iconic part of the local community.

Coaching at Portobello
Edinburgh Leisure offers an extensive programme of swimming lessons for children and adults alike. With over 20 years experience of teaching the city of Edinburgh to swim, Edinburgh Leisure is a trusted and expert provider of swimming lessons for all ages and all abilities.
We are also proud to host a fantastic gymnastics programme a stones throw away at Tumbles at Portobello.

Portobello Swim Centre is situated in the Portobello area. There is limited parking available near the venue, however, it is well-served by public transport with Lothian Buses routes 12, 19, 21, 26, 45 and 49 stopping nearby.
If you prefer to cycle, you can take the coastal route along the promenade and make use of the outdoor bike racks.
