Located on the outskirts of Edinburgh in Ratho, the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA) makes it easy to live life’s adventure.
EICA is Europe’s largest indoor climbing arena which features world-class climbing walls and boulders, competition certified speed walls and 2 separate bouldering rooms. EICA is also home to Clip n’ Climb, a fully equipped gym overlooking the main quarry and a soft play which means we have something for the whole family
New Visitors to EICA Ratho
Everyone visiting EICA:Ratho for the first time for climbing, belaying or bouldering has to complete a registration form. Please see below online registration forms for Climbing and Bouldering that can be completed in advance of your visit.
Register to Climb
If you are new to EICA Ratho you must register as a climber by completing the below form. All new climbers will be asked to complete a competency test upon arrival.

Bouldering RegistrationBring a Guest
Competent and registered climbers at EICA can bring up to two guests to climb under their supervision. A customer can sign guests in at reception where a guest form must be completed upon arrival.
Facilities
EICA is home to Europe’s largest indoor climbing arena, featuring internationally certified speed walls, and competition style boulders which sit beside our competition lead wall which hosted he IFSC Climbing World Cup in 2022. There are also two separate bouldering rooms including the new Bouldering Zone installed in Spring 2025.
Alongside the world-class climbing facilities there’s a fully equpped gym and studio space for various fitness and gym classes.

Events at EICA Ratho
The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena hosts several competitions and events throughout the year which can cause disruption to our regular climbing, bouldering, and coaching timetable. You can find a list of upcoming events and their impact at this link.
EICA Ratho is Europe’s largest indoor climbing centre with world-class climbing walls, Olympic standard bouldering, and a wide range of other facilities, all available to book for hire.
Whether you are looking for a space for a practice session, a meeting room, or you are organising a special event, we have the versatile space to accommodate your requirements.

Clip n Climb at EICA Ratho
Dry Ice, Orbital, and the legendary Vertical Drop Slide are all set to be updated with new exciting elements open in early December, providing climbers big and small with even more fun. If you’ve been meaning to conquer them or beat a personal record, now’s the time!
Clip ‘n Climb will temporarily close for public access from 17th November before reopening on Friday 5th December. We’re working hard to bring you a brighter and even more unforgettable Clip ‘n Climb experience. Come climb and take on the challenge!
Scrambles at EICA – Ratho’s Indoor Soft Play
Scrambles at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is one of our three Soft Play venues at Edinburgh Leisure.
With a baby area, separate frames for toddlers and juniors and a lovely cafe, we look forward to welcoming you to a land of fun and excitement! Adventure is calling and it’s time to find your wild side at Scrambles Soft Play!
You can simply drop in for your soft play sessions at Scrambles – no bookings. We have 60 and 90 minute sessions available.
Enjoy Unlimited Soft Play at our three fantastic venues with our Young Explorer Soft Play Membership.

EICA Ratho is located in the Ratho area, to the west of Edinburgh. The venue provides extensive on-site car parking facilities.
Public transport options are limited but services by Lothian Buses Bus 70 runs from the Gyle Centre and Hermiston Park and Ride. Please get off at the Canal Centre bus stop (then cross the bridge and walk 1 mile along the north side of the canal NCR754) Bus connections to Edinburgh City Centre are available from both the Gyle Centre and Hermiston Park and Ride
Cycle along NCR754 passing the union canal from Edinburgh and West Lothian. Bike racks are available on-site by the main entrance.
Parking Changes at EICA
We’re updating parking arrangements at EICA to help maximise the available spaces for our customers. Free parking will continue to be available all day at EICA by entering your car registration number on the tablets found around the venue Charges will apply for non-customers or failure to register your number plate.
