Sessions and Bookings
These sessions are not available to pre-book. Simply drop in to the session that suits you. Check your chosen venue’s pool timetable for more information on timing and availability.
In addition to standard lane and casual swimming the following sessions are available
- Casual and Lane sessions at the Royal Commonwealth Pool can vary depending on the makeup of the pool and requirement for any other uses such as lessons. 25m or 50m sessions are available with varying depths. Please check the venue timetable for more details.
- Leith Victoria Swim Centre offers women-only casual swimming sessions. These sessions are on every Saturday 15.30 – 16.30.
- Gracemount Leisure Centre offers adult only casual swimming. These sessions are on Friday evenings at 8pm
Lane Swimming
Enjoy lane swimming sessions across Edinburgh. Our pools split into different lanes at the lifeguard’s discretion offering spaces for all abilities and pace. You must be able to swim full lengths for these sessions.
Casual Swimming
Open to all, our casual swim sessions mean you can enjoy the water however you wish. Have fun and play in the open water or if there are lanes available, feel free to move between the two areas.
Relaxed Swim
Adult only relaxed swim sessions, suited to less confident swimmers to build confidence at their own pace. Pool set ups may vary depending on the venue.
Buddy Swimming
Discover safe, supportive swim sessions for older adults who need a confidence boost or extra help in the pool. Our friendly Ageing Well volunteers provide guidance to help build strength and flexibility at your own pace.
Family Swimming
Dive into family fun with Edinburgh Leisure’s fantastic swim sessions, available in pools right across the city!
Whether you’re splashing about in our dedicated family sessions, bouncing around on giant inflatables, or giving the kids some independence in junior-only casual swims, there’s something for everyone. We’re proud to offer ASN family swims too, ensuring accessible and inclusive aquatic adventures for all.

- Please note that family fun swim sessions are available by pre-booking only; due to the possibility of late bookings, session spaces may not always appear immediately on the timetable, so do not assume there will be space—ensure you have pre-booked your spot before visiting the venue.
- Inflatable Fun sessions are special family fun swim sessions featuring a large pool inflatable for extra excitement and adventure. Available only at Gracemount Leisure Centre and sessions are pre-book only via the website or app.
Coached Swim Classes
Develop your stroke technique and improve your fitness in the swimming pool with a swim class
- Masters – increase fitness and improve your technique under the guidance of an expert.
- Skills and Drills – improve your technique, make you a stronger swimmer and introduce you to key aquatic drills.
- Power Swim – increase fitness and drive you to swim stronger and faster.
These classes are all included with a Full Fitness or Swim membership.
