Junior Athletics Coaching and Courses for kids from age 3+
Run, Jump and Throw – Junior Athletics Coaching and Courses
Our Run, Jump and Throw classes are designed to give children an opportunity to discover and participate in athletics activities all year round.
Our programme offers children a wide variety of athletics events and techniques, and focuses on the FUNdamental movement skills, important in every child’s development. Our athletics programme follows Scottish Athletics’ Run, Jump and Throw curriculum.
Our UK Athletics qualified coaches encourage all children to try different running, throwing and jumping activities. If they want to do athletics competitively, we also have links with local clubs that train in our venues.
We are continually working on building our pathway with local athletics clubs ensuring that our athletes are well prepared to join a club with a wide experience of athletics.

Athletics Assessment
An Athletics Assessment is required for entry into any class above Stage 1.
The Athletics Assessment is a one-off up to 30 minute session designed to evaluate your child’s skill level before placing them in the appropriate stage. This session is suitable for P1+ participants who have previous athletics experience beyond beginner level. If your child is a beginner, please book into a Stage 1 class.

Stage 1
Our 60-minute Stage 1 athletics class is the starting point for all new participants (P1 and above).
Participants will learn the fundamental athletic skills, including running, jumping and throwing. This class focuses on building confidence, coordination and general fitness in a fun and supportive environment, while also encouraging friendships and teamwork.
There are no prerequisites for this stage.

Stage 2
Our Stage 2 athletics class is the next progressive level from Stage 1. This 60-minute class allows participants to further develop their fundamental skills, while beginning to understand the terminology and structure of athletics events.
At this level, participants will show a growing interest in improving their speed, agility and strength. They will consolidate the skills introduced at Stage 1 and start to build greater control and technique in running, jumping and throwing activities.
You cannot book directly into this class. Please book into Stage 1 or a skills assessment.

Stage 3
In Stage 3 athletics, participants will demonstrate enthusiasm and a strong desire to progress within the sport. There will be a stronger focus on refining technique and improving overall fitness.
Athletes will continue to develop strength, stamina and coordination, while progressing onto more structured and challenging activities. They will begin refining technique and building a better understanding of pacing, movement efficiency and body control across different events.
