Climbing Instructor Qualification Courses
We run a range of nationally recognised qualification courses for aspiring Climbing Instructors. These National Governing Body courses are administered by Mountain Training.
About Mountain Training Courses
To attend a Mountain Training course, you must first register with the Mountain Training Candidate Management System for the award scheme that you would like to complete.
Links to register for each award are included with the descriptions below.
Once you have registered, please submit a course enquiry via the courses page of the course you wish to book onto (EICA’s courses are run under the provider Nic Crawshaw).
Each qualification is made up of a training course, consolidation period and an assessment.

Climbing Wall Instructor Course
This course is designed for individuals who wish to teach top rope climbing and bouldering on indoor climbing walls and artificial towers. It focuses on the safe management of groups and the coaching of movement skills
More InformationClimbing Wall Development Instructor Course
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to teach lead climbing skills on indoor or outdoor artificial climbing walls and structures with fixed protection.
It builds on the skills gained through either the Climbing Wall Instructor or Rock Climbing Instructor qualifications, one of which must be held in order to access the scheme.
Rock Climbing Instructor Course
This qualification is all about supervising safe climbing and abseiling sessions on single pitch crags and artificial structures.

Bouldering Wall Instructor Course
The Bouldering Wall Instructor qualification enables experienced boulderers to instruct bouldering on purpose built artificial bouldering-only structures in the UK and Ireland.
