What is Learn to Lead Trad Climbing?
If you are already leading 6a comfortably indoors, Learn to Lead Trad Climbing is a practical, structured two day introduction to traditional climbing for those ready to move beyond the wall and into leader‑placed protection. With a 1:2 instructor to participant ratio, the course focuses on developing solid foundations – from placing nuts and cams, to building safe belays, managing ropes, and understanding outdoor decision making.
You’ll start by seconding routes and, where appropriate, progress towards leading with close supervision, gaining confidence and judgement throughout. Locations are chosen daily to suit conditions, ensuring the best possible learning environment. By the end of the course, you’ll have the core skills needed to begin leading easier trad climbs independently.
Please note you must be 14 years+ to attend, any participants under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a participating adult.
