On 9th February 2008, 8 year old Lucy Hutton put in the performance of her young life, at the Scottish Gymnastics’ Development competition in Dunfermline, an event which offered more than just gold medals.
The top 12 gymnasts, in the 8 year old section, were invited to a try out for selection to a squad, working with national coaches Daniela Nanova and Gemma Burrows. Those selected would work with these experienced coaches in preparation for their Compulsory Level 4 in 2009, an elite pathway which, only a small selection of gymnasts complete each year.
Lucy Hutton was 4th overall and was invited to attend the trial on the 21st March, 2008 at Inverclyde National Sports Centre, Largs.
Lucy’s coach, Karen McGrath, was delighted with her performance. “Lucy has worked really hard and she deserves her chance at the trial. I wish her loads of luck.”
Audrey Cash, also head coach for the City of Edinburgh Gymnastics Club, also wished her luck saying “Lucy is a talented gymnast. I know she’ll do very well”
