Meadows Tennis Open Day- 8th June
05 June 2008

MEADOWS TENNIS OPEN DAY!!

To mark the beginning of our summer and, with it, the tennis season,we are running a family open day this Sunday, 8th June, at the East Meadows Club.

Running from 2-5pm, players of all ages and abilities will be welcome to sample the recently refurbished courts free of charge. Children will be able to take part in fun themed games while adults can book into 45 minute coaching clinics covering serving, groundstrokes and net play. All equipment will be provided.

Tennis Development Officer, Alex Harkins, said: "Our Open Day will give those keen to givetennisa try, or those who already enjoy the game,a flavour for our excellent community facilities and coaching services. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their age or ability."

During normal hours, the Meadows’ courts are available at only £4.50 per hour for children and, at all other times, it’s absolutely free. For only £20 per year, they can join the Meadows City Tennis Club – voted LTA Club of the year 2003 – and benefit from guaranteed court time, special events, expert coaching, use of equipment and more.

The complex, made up of 16 courts, was completely refurbished last summer, and now includes ‘mini tennis’ markings for our Andy Murrays of the future. Joint-funded by the Lawn Tennis Association, the City of Edinburgh Council and Edinburgh Leisure, the £160,000 refurbishment was part of a larger project to rejuvenate the East Meadows, which also included the hugely popular £400,000 Magnet Play Area.
