Tomorrow is just around the corner & we need to make sure we're ready for it. Being a charitable trust we're in a fantastic position for investing in the future. As a not-for-profit organisation any surplus we make is reinvested into our facilities.
Royal Commonwealth Pool - opening Spring 2012 The Royal Commonwealth Pool usually referred to as the Commonwealth Pool, Commie Pool or even RCP has been a stalwart of sport & leisure in Edinburgh for nearly 40 years.
It was built for the 1970 Commonwealth Games, and it was used again in the 1986 games and it is even planned to host the Diving Competitions for the 2014 Commonwealth Games being held in Glasgow.
Although well-used and much loved, the RCP now requires a complete upgrade in order to continue serving both the local community and elite swimmers alike.
The building itself is listed after being selected in 1993 as one of sixty key Scottish monuments of the post-war period so although the outside will remain the same, inside there'll be a full upgrade, which includes:
- An 8 lane 50m pool with a movable floor depth and capacity to be split into two 25m areas
- A 25m diving pool, with movable floor, which can also be used as a 25m swimming pool
- Another 25m pool with moving floor for swimming lessons and informal
- A dry diving practice area with trampolines and safety harness
- New soft play activities
- A refurbished and expanded gym
- Three fitness studios
- A new changing village
- Meeting and conference rooms
