Scotland is a wonderful country for the kayaker, with miles of coastline, inland lochs, rivers and even canals. This is a cheap and easily accessible sport for anyone who enjoys being on the water. The sheltered harbour of Port Edgar and the adjacent Firth of Forth is an ideal area in which to learn how to paddle canoes and kayaks. We also run classes at Craiglockhart Pond for 8-14 year old beginners. These weekend courses are aimed at novices and will usually include all the important paddling techniques as well as a short trip. Assessment for BCU kayak certificates is included.
For information, kayaks have a deck and the paddler sits in a cockpit, whereas canoes are large volume open boats without decks, and can often carry 3 or 4 paddlers.
