Powerboat Courses

Our powerboat courses can take you from the basics of low speed skills and maneouvres to high speed adventures! Following the RYA National Powerboat Scheme, our courses are delivered in our fleet of 5.5m RIBS.

RYA Powerboat Level 2
Close quarters handling, high speed maneouvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations. This course is packed full of exciting activities, so that you can powerboat safely and competently by yourself. On successful completion of this course you’ll also qualify for an International Certificate of Competence (issued by the RYA) for those of you that wish to powerboat abroad.

RYA Intermediate Powerboat
Want to take your powerboating to the next level? Then this course is for you! The Intermediate Powerboat syllabus aims to provide a level of training to suit those who use powerboats more frequently, and in more advanced conditions. The two-day course covers the basics of navigation, practical use of daytime pilotage, passage planning skills and using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques on coastal waters.

RYA Advanced Powerboat Course
This course is for more experienced leisure and professional powerboaters wishing to skipper small powerboats further afield and at night. As well as high levels of boat handling skills, a short range VHF licence, valid first aid certificate and navigation skills up to day skipper standard are required for this course. Please note that this course does not include an assessment for a commercial endorsement.

RYA Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence
Do you need a commercially endorsed advanced powerboat certificate? As per the MCA manning requirements, you need to complete a series of pre-requisites (detailed on the RYA website at www.rya.org.uk), and sit a four to five hour exam to gain your certificate. Spend the morning preparing and getting used to the boat with one of our experienced instructors, and then sit the exam in our RIB with an RYA / MCA Examiner. Please note that, in addition to the cost of the course, there is an exam fee payable directly to the RYA.

RYA Safety Boat
If you’ve already got an RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate, and fancy developing your safety skills to help your sailing club or RYA Training Centre, then this course is for you. The syllabus covers the safe rescue of crews and prevention of further damage to a variety of boats and equipment, including windsurfers and canoes.
