Water sports
Water sports can offer a lot of fun and enjoyment for your child. Port Edgar is a large water sports centre and marina with over 300 berths. There are many junior multi activity courses available. Based on the Firth of Forth this is an excellent area for learning to sail with some of the most spectacular scenery.
Canoeing/Kayaking REQUIREMENTS - Ideal for novices. Will include a short trip. DETAILS -The sheltered harbour is an ideal area in which to learn how to paddle canoes and kayaks. These are weekend courses. Will include all the basic paddling techniques.
Weekend Sea Kayaking REQUIREMENTS - Courses are for people with 3 or 4 days minimum previous experience. DETAILS - Exploring the fascinating coastline of Scotland in a kayak. Will include all the basic techniques including paddling, self-rescue, navigation and passage planning.
Weekend Junior Kayak Courses REQUIREMENTS - None DETAILS - The course is intended to be fun and entertaining, and will follow the ‘yellow badge’ syllabus of the BCU Rainbow Scheme.
Introduction to Dinghies REQUIREMENTS - These are the courses for anyone with no previous experience of sailing. DETAILS - By the end of the course you should be able to rig the sails, act as helm and crew, and be capable of manoeuvring the boat safely in moderate winds under the supervision of an instructor.
Dinghy Courses-Basic Skills REQUIREMENTS - RYA Level 2 certificate DETAILS - Most of the course is spent out on the water learning all the essentials. There is also an important theory element. A wide range of skills is involved, including rigging the dingy, helming and crewing skills, points of sailing, tacking and gibing.
Junior Powerboat (RYA Level1) REQUIREMENTS - For 8 to 11 year olds. The courses are available at either weekends, or on weekdays during the school holidays DETAILS - This is a two-day course providing a safe introduction to driving small planning speedboats.
Youth Powerboat (RYA Level 2) – Midweek courses REQUIREMENTS - During school holidays two day midweek courses will be run for 12 to 17 year olds, following the standard RYA Level 2 Powerboat syllabus. DETAILS - This course is universally recognised as the National certificate of competence in basic boat handling skills.
Powerboat Cruising (Intermediate) REQUIREMENTS - Applicants must be of Level 2 standard. DETAILS - The course offers an intermediate stage between Level 2 and Advanced. The syllabus includes pilotage, navigation, passage planning, rough weather precautions, basic use of GPS, boat handling
