Diving has long been loved in Edinburgh by children and adults alike and, with the recent success of young British Diver Tom Daley, there's never been a better to dive in.

Learning to dive is a brilliant way to get water confident, as well as improving co-ordination and flexibility, increasing fitness levels, and it's magical to watch as a spectator.

Edinburgh Leisure's learn to dive programme, currently based at Newbattle Swimming Pool whilst the Royal Commonwealth Pool is undergoing refurbishment, follows the National Diving Award Scheme and consists of six progressive grades of diving. All of the movements are taught in a safe and fun environment to give you an excellent foundation in a sport which you'll enjoy for years to come.

We've a wide range of classes to suit everyone from absolute beginners through to those at much more competitive level. We recommend that everyone start out in a beginner class so that we can assess your ability and work out the best route for you to progress.

Beginner 1
This class is for newcomers to the sport who've never participated in a diving lesson. You must be able to swim 15 metres without buoyancy aids and submerge without goggles.

Beginner 2
This class follows on from the Beginner 1 class and develops your skills and movements further. You will have completed Grade 1 of the ‘Learn to Dive Scheme’ before proceeding to Beginner 2.

Diver 1
These classes focus on progress towards more competitive diving after accomplishing the first 3 grades during the Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 classes. By now you'll be performing a variety of dives.

Club Diver
These classes are for budding divers who have reached competition level. Participants at this level will be invited to join the well recognised Edinburgh Diving Club. There are 4 different training squads within the club, from recreational to performance level.
