Coaching Edinburgh is a service established for the development of coaches and coaching in the City of Edinburgh. Since the beginning of the programme in 2002, over 700 scholarships have been awarded to coaches. Edinburgh Leisure, sportscotland and the City of Edinburgh Council are partners committed to delivering, 'a city where sports coaching is more widely available to all, encouraging people to get started in sport'

To achieve this vision, Coaching Edinburgh has developed a number of services to help recruit, support and develop coaches in the city of Edinburgh.:

• Generic coach education programme with subsidised courses to help coaches meet governing body requirements, for example Sportscoach UK workshops
• Information on local coach development and education opportunities
• A 3 Level Scholarship programme designed to recruit and support coaches by helping fund qualifications and development opportunities
• A Coaching Edinburgh website and newsletter, essential information for all local coaches.
• A Pathway service, practical and personalised advice helping coaches of all levels.

Pauline McDonald, a coach funded through the programme, states:

“Coaching Edinburgh has continued to support my development through their level 1 & 2 scholarship programme, allowing me to further my coach education, attend various coaching conferences and assist with the planning of my development.

For this I am very grateful, because my long term goal is to coach at international level and help tomorrow’s sportspeople play with invention, passion, creativity, and achieve their dreams.”
