![]() Youth Zone Leading an active lifestyle can mean many things, but it's basically about making small changes to the way you live, to become more active, and therefore more healthy. Remember, you should aim to do 60 minutes of moderate physical activity each day, which can be all at once or accumulated throughout the day…your choice! 1. Make your journey to school more active How do you get to school? Do you get a lift? Take a bus? Have you thought of walking? It’s a cheap and easy way to get more active. If your journey is too far to walk, what about jumping on your bike (remember your helmet!)? If you have to get a bus, have you thought abut getting off a few stops earlier…who knows, it might even be cheaper. 2. Make use of your lunch break Taking part in regular physical activity is a great way to meet new people and socialise with friends, so have a kick about with your mates or why not try one of your lunch time sports clubs. 3. Take the dog for a walk (or run!) Get the dog and go take it for a walk… a great way to get active and they’ll love it too! 4. Take the stairs Most of us are guilty of taking the lift or escalator when we could just as easy take the stairs. Try it… 5. Bored with doing nothing… try something! Bored of just ‘hanging out’ with your mates? Try something new! There are loads of activities for you in the area you live, so chat to your school’s active schools coordinator about the opportunities available and check out the Energize section (our rewards card for young people) here. |
