ZIPPERS (RYA Stage 1) Weekends Getting into sailing is great fun in our fleet of Zephyr dinghies. Sailing, steering, paddling, knots, capsizing and loads of games make it an action packed weekend. All that and by the end of the weekend you may even be awarded an RYA Stage 1 certificate.
TOPCATS (RYA Stage 2) Weekends For those who have completed stage 1, our Topper dinghies are the next step in your sailing. It is more fun and games on the water giving you the confidence and skill to helm these popular boats. This weekend will work towards your RYA stage 2 certificate.
RYA STAGE 3 Weekends If you have completed your RYA stage 2 certificate and have done some sailing since then this course is the one for you. Upwind sailing, downwind sailing and anywhere-you-want-to-go-sailing are the aims of this course. On completion you are welcome to join the Big Blue Boat Club.
RYA STAGE 4 Weekends This course gives you the experience of two sail, two person boats needed to move into the five RYA module courses on offer here at Port Edgar. This means some experience is needed after you have completed your RYA Stage 3 before coming on this course. After this course we will have you flying spinnakers, sailing rudderless and hanging out on the trapeze in no time.
JUNIOR 5 DAY SAILING COURSE Spending five days on the water with our Instructors is a great way to get out during the holidays. Whatever your level you should find a course to fit whether it is to learn new skills or recap on skills learnt before. Remember to bring your Junior Sailing Logbook!
STARTER COURSE (RYA Stage 1 & 2) Weekdays With little or no previous sailing experience these courses are perfect for you. Using Zephyr and Topper dinghies the course will cover all the first skills needed to make the boats go. By the end of the week you should be tacking, reaching and feeling confident on the water.
RYA STAGE 3 Weekdays For those of you with a RYA stage 2 and some experience. A week of becoming independent, making your own decisions, games and learning how to sail Topper and Topaz dinghies with style! That is what this 5 day course is all about and by the end of it we hope to award you an RYA Stage 3 certificate and get you along to the Big Blue Boat Club to practise your new skills.
RYA STAGE 4 Weekdays This course allows you to move on to sailing two-man dinghies with jibs. More advanced skills are practised in preparation for moving into the RYA advanced modules, learning to race, and generally having a great time afloat.
Notes for the adults: Port Edgar Sailing School runs courses throughout the season following the RYA Junior Sailing Scheme. The emphasis is on fun, learning and completing the RYA Junior Sailing Scheme Logbook. Everyone learns at different speeds and the progress of sailing courses is inevitable dependant on the weather. It is most important to remember that these courses are not pass or fail but are intended to build confidence and ability on the water. Repeating a weekend course is a great way to build confidence, sign off more parts in your logbook and be prepared for the next stage.
