Children Swim Free
Since 2003 Edinburgh Leisure have been offering Primary school age children in Edinburgh the chance to enjoy swimming for free. Swimming is a great activity that can be done on your own, or with a group of friends or family.
Admission charges have been waived to allow approximately 60,000 youngsters unlimited access to swimming pools across the city in a bid to increase the physical activity levels of children and to encourage family participation.
The benefits of this scheme will help introduce children to a healthier lifestyle and encourage participation at an early age. This will help form the habit of exercising that will hopefully continue throughout their adult lives. We want to encourage more young people to get active and to visit their local swimming pools. To achieve this, we must ensure that price is not a barrier. By offering free swimming we’ve made it easier for families to exercise together where cost might have previously been a factor.
Further benefits include developing water confidence within a safe and supervised environment as all Edinburgh Leisure pools are staffed by fully qualified lifeguards.
