Turkish Baths

Q: What are Turkish Baths?
A: Turkish baths have been used for centuries as a way of relaxing the body and soothing tired muscles and Portobello Swim Centre has one of the few original Victorian Turkish baths still in use in the UK. Portobello’s hammam, beautifully tiled in typical Turkish style, is complete with four rooms of varying temperature – the Tepidarium (warm), the Calidarium (hot), the Laconium (hottest), and the Frigidarium, where you can chill out afterwards. There is also a cold plunge pool to refresh and invigorate.

The benefits of Turkish baths are derived from the effects of combining exposure to dry heat, moist heat, and cold. The experience stimulates your body and is thought to have health and cleansing benefits.

Q: Where are they?
A: Our Turkish Baths are located at Portobello Swim Centre, 57 The Promenade, Edinburgh EH15 2BS. Telephone: 0131 669 6888

Q: How much does it cost?
A: The cost for using the Turkish Baths and swimming pool at Portobello Swim Centre starts from just £5.40.
