Watersports

Make a bigger splash

It’s never too late to take to the water, you can start your life on the ocean wave from 6 to 86 (or older if you like), and Edinburgh’s a brilliant place to do it.  Even if it’s decades since you went in a dinghy or kayak, watersports are easy to pick up again. Port Edgar Watersports Centre has dozens of courses for sailers, kayakers or powerboat drivers. There are one-day tasters for first-timers, and even if you’re experienced, there are new things to try. How about sailing keelboats or catamarans if you’ve only sailed dinghies? Driving a powerboat? Doing race training, or river kayaking? Improving your seamanship?

Sailing courses follow the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) National Sailing Scheme; kayaking courses follow the Scottish Canoe Association awards scheme; and powerboat courses follow the RYA Powerboat Scheme. As a result, it’s easy to check what skills or experience levels you need before signing up for a course. But that’s the simple part – much harder is making your choices from the vast array of new pleasures that our courses could offer you.
