Older Adult Activities

You’re only as old as you feel

Being active certainly helps to hold back the years. This doesn’t necessarily have to involve exercise classes, dancing or walks – though we do organise these for older adults. Staying active is about non-physical things too: meeting people; trying a new hobby or helping other people learn one; finding an activity that makes you look forward to the day ahead.

Many people assume that Edinburgh Leisure’s programme for older adults just involves exercise, but we offer much more than that. A knitting group, for example, with some sewing and crochet thrown in. Gardening, photography, indoor kurling, and even singing. You may have thought about some of these before, but never had the time or motivation to actually do them. So now’s the time to give them a go.

Community projects

For a diverse range of activities for 50+ adults we have our multi award winning Ageing Well programme, which caters for over 400 adults in community venues and is supported by volunteers.

We also have Active Lives for those aged over 50, which is a referral project. Eligible adults living in certain areas of Edinburgh have access to activities at Edinbugh Leisure venues, such as relaxation classes or supported gym sessions, with special concessionary rates.
